Travel back in time with The Entertainment Time Machine, an engaging cross-curricular activity packet designed for grades 3–5 and adaptable for grades 2–6. Students interview a grandparent, older relative, family friend, neighbor, or another older adult to discover what entertainment was like when they were their age. Through this intergenerational experience, students compare movies, television, music, games, toys, technology, celebrities, and everyday entertainment from the past with the world they know today.
Students complete a variety of activities including an entertainment interview, then-and-now comparisons, a technology time warp, price research and math challenges, historical entertainment research, and compare-and-contrast reflections. They’ll also use their interview findings to complete an informative writing prompt and imagine traveling back to experience one piece of entertainment from their interviewee’s childhood.
